The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will return to Darlington Raceway; the track "too tough to tame"; after six years. Today's Goodyear tire test was the first time the Trucks have been on the newly resurfaced 1.366-mile high-banked oval.
Almirola and the No. 51 Graceway Pharmaceuticals AKawareness.com team was one of a hand-full of teams that participated in the Goodyear tire test on Tuesday, March 9th.
Almirola has one previous start at Darlington Raceway; being in a Nationwide Series car for Joe Gibbs Racing back in 2007.
"The Goodyear tire test was helpful for our No. 51 Graceway Pharmaceuticals team to get a head start on our set-up for when we return. This will be the first time the truck will race at Darlington on the new surface; and besides that it's been six years since the Truck Series has been to Darlington."
"This is one of the coolest tracks we go to with a ton of history. Just getting here you drive down a two lane road, most of the racetracks we go to you get off the interstate, go down a six-lane road and pull into the racetrack," said Almirola.
"This place still reminds me of Martinsville and the old school racetracks where it's out in the middle of nowhere and you're surrounded by a bunch of diehard NASCAR fans that come to watch the race. I think it's awesome that the Camping World Truck Series is coming back here and it's going to put on one hell of a race, it's going to be exciting."
The Camping World Truck Series will take to the track for the Too Tough To Tame 200 on August 14. Visit www.darlingtonraceway.com for tickets and information.
